STANFORD, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford enjoyed the best of both worlds in its MPSF opener Saturday afternoon, getting solid efforts on the offensive and defensive sides of the pool in a 16-2 rout of Pacific. The Cardinal (5-1, 1-0 MPSF) got goals from eight different players in the contest, including hat tricks from a trio of athletes.
Koree Blyleven, Kelly Eaton, and Lauren Silver each scored three goals to pace the Cardinal offense, while on defense, freshman Kim Hall made her first collegiate start in the cage, making four saves and allowing only a pair of goals. Jacquelyn Gauthier and Chelsea Smith-Carmichael ech scored a pair of goals for Stanford, while Allie Gerrity, Kira Hillman, and Heather West rounded out the Cardinal goal scorers on the day.
The Cardinal put things away early on, scoring eight consecutive first-period goals to start the contest. Gerrity opened it up with a goal just 1:02 into the game, and Silver notched her third hat trick of the year within the first 6:45 of the contest. Pacific got a score from Kellie Fletcher with 51 seconds left in the period.
Smith-Carmichael scored the first collegiate goal of her career to start the second period, as Blyleven added a goal and Eaton finished off her hat trick. Blyleven would complete her three-goal day at the 3:14 mark of the third period.
Hall highlighted a defensive effort by allowing only two goals and stopping four Pacific shots on the day.
