Stanford women's lacrosse played an extremely strong first half, but fell to a very strong Duke Blue Devil team 16-9 in Dallas, Tex. Sunday afternoon. The Cardinal (3-1, 2-0 MPSF) led late in first half, but couldn't withstand strong Blue Devil depth, which took over in the second half.

Senior Daphne Patterson led the way with four goals to give her 11 on the season. She scored three in the second half, but the rest of the Cardinal only managed one goal in the final frame in the loss.

Duke was led by Carolyn Davis and Megan Del Monte, who scored three goals each in the win. Blue Devil goalkeeper Kim Imbesi recorded six saves in the victory and Cardinal goalkeeper Laura Shane stopped 11 shots in the match. Freshman Karen Nesbitt was the other multi-goal scorer for the Cardinal as she found the net twice, to give her five goals on the season.

The Cardinal was efficient in free position attempts, as they converted 5/10 and forced the Blue Devils into a 2/7 success rate.

Stanford will return to the field next Saturday, Feb. 23 when they travel across the bay and face off against California. The game will take place at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of UC Berkeley.
