Box Score

Stanford, Calif. - Saint Mary's (2-1) pitchers limited Stanford (2-2) to six hits in a 4-2 victory over the Cardinal on a chilly Monday evening at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. Starter Scott Schneider (1-0) earned the win, scattering five hits and one run over the first 6.0 innings. Alex Jensen (2.0 IP, 2 BB) and Anthony Selden (1.0 IP, 1 SO) also had effective relief outings with Selden earning his first save of the campaign.

Randy Wells (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) had the key hit when his two-run double in the top of the sixth snapped a 1-1 tie.

Jason Castro (2-3, HR, RBI) homered for the Cardinal and was the only Stanford player with more than one hit.

"It's a relief to come off of a good summer season last year and then get off to such a good start," said Castro, who is hitting .429 with two homers and five RBI in the team's first four games. "I just want to keep rolling offensively and defensively to help the team."

Stanford returns to action Wednesday with a non-conference contest against Nevada (0-2) at 3 pm, PT. The Cardinal is scheduled to start RHP Max Fearnow (0-0, 0.00) on the mound, while the Wolf Pack will counter with RHP Mario Rivera (0-0).

"We have Nevada coming in here tomorrow," commented Castro. "I really like the condensed schedule this year because you get a chance to play almost every day. It makes it easier not to get down after a game like tonight."
