After two days of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, Stanford sits in tenth place. After low scores yesterday, Arizona National golf course proved more treacherous as all ten teams in the top-10 shot a higher score in round two.
Stanford shot 30-over-par 314 in the second round for a two day total of 49-over-par 617. Despite the higher score the Cardinal moved up one spot from eleventh to tenth.
Oklahoma State jumped into the lead with a 14-over-par round of 302. The Cowgirls lead is four strokes with a two-day total of 18-over-par 586. In second place is Duke with a two-day total of 22-over-par 590. Rounding out the top five are Arizona and USC in a tie for third with a two-day total of 28-over-par 596, and Arizona State at 35-over-par 603.
In round two, Stanford was led by freshman Rebecca Durham who shot a 3-over-par 74, a six shot improvement over yesterday. Durham made three birdies on Tuesday for a two round total of 12-over-par 154 to move from a tie from 73rd after round one to a tie for 38th after round two.
Junior Mari Chun backed up her outstanding round yesterday with a solid 6-over-par 77 on day two. Chun who sat in second place overall yesterday just one stroke off the lead is now in a tie for sixth with a two-day total of 4-over-par 146. Chun will need to make up six strokes tomorrow on leader Amanda Blumenherst of Duke to challenge for medalist honors.
Sophomore Angela King shot an 8-over-par 79 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 14-over-par 156. King, coming off her best tournament of her career two weeks ago at Palos Verdes sits in a tie for 52nd.
Rounding out the Stanford squad were freshman Piper Miller who shot a 13-over-par 84 and junior Ki-Shui Liao who shot a 15-over-par 86. Miller now sits in a tie for 66th with a two-day total of 19-over-par 161. Liao is in a tie for 80th with a two-day total of 26-over-par 168.
Stanford will be back on the course tomorrow for the conclusion of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational. Stanford will look to move up even further in the overall standings, while Chun will look to clinch her third top-10 of the season.
