No. 9 Stanford Sweeps Away Hawai'i In Three

Stanford, Calif. - No. 9 Stanford men's volleyball made quick work of the Hawai'i Warriors Thursday night at Burnham Pavilion when they dispatched of the squad in three games (30-22, 30-23, 30-25). It was just a day after the two teams grinded it out for five games before Stanford edged them in the final game 16-14. Sophomore Evan Romero recorded 20 kills and hit an astronomical .692.

Stanford jumped out to a big lead in the first game at 7-2 and never looked back in the easy 30-22 victory. The Cardinal got off to the big start behind three kills early from Brandon Williams and Romero added five kills of his own. The Cardinal also limited the Warriors to a .200 hitting percentage and never let them get them into a rhythm all game.

The second game went the same way as the Cardinal again jumped out to a 7-2 lead and never trailed in defeating Hawai'i 30-23. Sophomore Kawika Shoji was instrumental again in today's win and finished the match with 46 assists in the three games.

The Cardinal was closer in the third game, but once again was able to pull through in the end to win the match with a 30-25 win in the third game. Shoji and freshman Jordan Inafuku led the way with 10 and 12 digs apiece to keep rallies alive and keep the momentum Stanford's way.

Junior Brandon Williams also provided a spark in the match with 11 kills on just 15 attempts for a .600 hitting percentage.

Stanford will return to the court when they head to Santa Cruz to face the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs on Saturday, Mar. 1 at 7:00 p.m.
