Feb. 8, 2008

Box Score

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford women's lacrosse hosted MPSF rival Oregon on Friday night at Laird Q. Cagan stadium and came away with a thrilling 8-7 victory. The Cardinal held Oregon to just one second half goal after trailing 6-4 at the halftime break. Two-time All-American goalkeeper Laura Shane made 14 saves in the victory to push the Cardinal to 2-0 on the young season and 1-0 in MPSF conference play.

Sophomore Amanda Schwab netted the game-winner for the Cardinal as she was streaking to the net and hit in stride by sophomore Claire Hubbard. It was one of Stanford's 29 shots as they outshot the Ducks by three. In the new flawless second half the Cardinal committed just two turnovers and had the ball in their possession for the majority of the half.

Freshman Karen Nesbitt and sophomore Dana Lindsay each had two goals in the contest to lead the control. Hubbard recorded three assists in the victory, including Stanford's last two goals of the second half. Ilsa van der Berg led the Ducks with two goals in the game.

Senior Daphne Patterson also scored in the contest, which gave her seven goals on the young season. Patterson and the rest of the Cardinal were also very active in the passing lanes, forcing the Ducks into 19 turnovers while committing just 12 in the game. Julie Christy and Sarah Flynn also recorded goals in the game which gave them each two goals on the season.

The Cardinal got the 2007 season off to a slow start, but have made sure to start 2008 strong with two strong early season wins. LeMoyne was a 2007 NCAA Tournament participant and Oregon was second in the ultra competitive MPSF conference last year and just missed an NCAA berth.

The Cardinal will return to the field on Weds, Feb. 13 when they host UC Davis at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
