Box Score

Stanford men's volleyball got a scare Saturday night from the UCSD Tritos, but went on to win in four games (23-30, 30-20, 30-23, 30-23) to rebound from their loss the night before to Long Beach State. Stanford was led by senior Matt Ceran, who recorded 18 kills and five digs with a .353 attack percentage. Freshman Spencer McLachlin also tallied 14 kills with a .379 attack percentage.

The Cardinal came out flat in game one and allowed the Tritons into hitting .310 for the game. The game was tied at 17-17, but UCSD went on a 10-4 run to put away the game. It was an ominous start after yesterdays three-game sweep, but the Cardinal would not be denied tonight.

Stanford took command in game two, hitting at a .433 clip and taking a 17-10 lead. Stanford would cruise to the 30-20 win and evened the score at 1-1.

In the third game the Cardinal was tied at 10-10, but scored three straight points which made the score 13-10. The lead would build to five points at 23-18, and Stanford eventually won the match at 30-23.

The fifth and final match, UCSD powered out to a 17-16, but Stanford recovered to score four points in a row to make the score 20-16. The Tritons never got closer than within two the rest of the way and went on to win 30-23.

Sophomore Evan Romero also recorded 18 kills and freshman Jordan Inafuku recorded 10 digs and was perfect in 40 receptions. Sophomore Kawika Shoji recorded 57 in the victory to give him 97 assists on the weekend.

The Cardinal now will enter the final exam break and will return to the court on Friday, Mar. 28 at 7:00 p.m to face the Pepperdine Waves.
