UC Davis Tops No. 10 Stanford In 12 Innings, 9-8

April 9, 2008

Box Score

Stanford, Calif. - Matt Dempsey's two-out RBI bloop single in the top of the 12th inning scored Rikki Foster with the game-winning to lift UC Davis (21-10) to an 9-8 victory over No. 10 Stanford (15-10-1) in a wild non-conference contest at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond on Wednesday evening. Foster had started the inning with a leadoff double that was also his first collegiate hit but was stranded there until Dempsey's game-winner off Stanford reliever Carey Schwartz, who took the loss in the first outing of his career despite a solid performance with only the run and two hits in the 12th inning off him over 3.0 innings of work.

Stanford will next travel to play two-time defending champion Oregon State (15-10, 3-3 Pac-10) in a three-game Pac-10 series this Friday-Sunday, April 11-13 (5 pm, 1 pm, 1 pm, PT) in Corvallis, Oregon. Stanford is one of three teams currently tied for the lead in the conference standings along with Arizona State and California with a 4-2 league mark. Oregon State is one of three teams only one game behind the Pac-10 tri-leaders with a 3-3 conference record.
