No. 16 Stanford Edges Vermont 8-6

No. 16 Stanford women's lacrosse began their important four game road trip Saturday with an 8-6 victory over the Vermont Catamounts. The Cardinal was led by sophomore Dana Lindsay and senior Megan McClain, who had two goals apiece. Senior goalkeeper Laura Shane finished the match with 10 saves.

The Cardinal trailed 3-2 at halftime, but burst out for six goals in the second half, to take the lead in the defensive struggle. Stanford scored five goals in a row in a stretch that started at the 10:00 mark of the first half, and lasted all the way to the 15:03 mark of the second half. The Catamounts were held scoreless for over 31 minutes of play.

Freshman Emily Layden scored in the second half at the 26:10 mark to give the Cardinal their first lead of the game. After McClain scored two straight goals the Cardinal held a 6-3 lead with just 15 minutes left.

The Catamounts came on strong scoring three of the next five goals, but ultimately fell by the 8-6 deficit to end the game. Vermont was led by Allison Haigh who scored two goals in the match. On top of her two goals, Lindsay also assisted on two others as she was involved in half of Stanford's eight goals.

The Cardinal will return to the field on Sunday, Apr. 13 when they face Cornell in Ithaca, NY. The match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. local time.
