Stanford, Calif. - Brent Milleville's RBI single off the left field wall scored Brendan Domaracki with the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift No. 10 Stanford (19-11-1) to a wild 11-10 comeback victory over San Francisco (21-15) in a non-conference game at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond on Wednesday evening. Stanford had trailed 9-5 in the contest before scoring once in the bottom of the eighth and three times in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. Randy Molina's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth tied the score at 10-10.
The victory extended Stanford's win streak to a season-high-tying four in a row.
Milleville (4-6, HR, 3 RBI) tied a career-best with four hits and homered earlier in the game, while Ben Clowe homered and drove in a career-high three runs. Jeff Whitlow (2-3, 2 3B, RBI) and Jason Castro (2-5) added two hits apiece with Whitlow becoming the first Stanford player to triple more than once in a game since Jed Lowrie tripled three times at California on February 27, 2004.
Blake Hancock (1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 SO) earned the victory as the last of eight Stanford pitchers.
Mitchell Bialosky (4-6, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) was the offensive star for San Francisco but also suffered the loss on the mound as he was charged with both the game-tying run in the ninth inning and the game-winning run in the 11th frame after entering the contest in the ninth inning with an opportunity to earn a save. Zach Kim (2-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI), Kyle Morgan (2-5, 2B, 3 RBI) and Connor Bernatz (2-5, 2B, RBI) added two hits each for the Dons.
Stanford's game-winning rally started when Bialosky walked Domaracki and Castro to start the bottom of the 11th before MIlleville skied a ball that looked to be a home run off the bat but hit the top of the wall. Bernatz picked the ball up and made an attempt to throw Domaracki out at the plate but the relay throw from San Francisco shortstop Tavo Hall was not in time.
Stanford returns to Pac-10 action with a three-game series at UCLA (18-14, 3-3 Pac-10) this Friday-Sunday (6 pm, 2 pm, 1 pm, PT).
