Palos Verdes, Calif.- After one day of the Pac-10 women's golf championships Stanford sits in seventh place after firing an 18-over-par 302 on Monday. UCLA leads the tournament after shooting an even-par round of 284.
The host USC Trojans sit in second place just one stroke off the lead after finishing with a 1-over-par round of 285. Third place is occupied by Arizona State after their round of 12-over-par 296.
The individual lead is currently held by a pair of Bruins, Tiffany Joh and Sydnee Michaels who both shot rounds of 2-under-par 69.
Despite being in seventh place, the Cardinal are just six strokes away from third, setting up what should be an exciting final two days of the tournament.
Stanford played extremely balanced golf with all five players finishing within two strokes of each other. The Cardinal were led by Mari Chun and Catherina Wang who both fired rounds of 4-over-par 75 and sit in a tie for 18th place.
Just one stroke behind their teammates were Angela King and Rebecca Durham who shot rounds of 5-over-par 76 on Monday. Their scores tie them for 24th place for the tournament.
The final Stanford golfer was Piper Miller who shot a 6-over-par round of 77. Her score places her in a tie for 31st after the first round.
Stanford will return to the Palos Verdes Golf Club tomorrow for the second round of the Pac-10 Championships. The Cardinal will look to make up some ground on the leaders and improve on their seventh place in the standings.
