Lincoln, Calif.- It was a difficult day for Stanford at the NCAA West Regional as they shot a 11-over-par 299 on Saturday to finish in a tie for eighth place. With the top-8 teams advancing to the NCAA Championships the Cardinal entered a 3-team playoff with UC Davis and Ohio State.
In the one-hole playoff Stanford was 1-over-par, however UC Davis was 1-under-par to clinch the berth to the NCAA Championships. The Cardinal will miss the NCAA's for the first time since 1988.
Angela King led the Cardinal with a 1-under-par 71 on the day. It was the only round under par for Stanford during the entire weekend. King finished with a 3-day total of 1-over-par 217 to finish in a tie for 11th. It was the third top-25 finish for King this season.
Freshman Rebecca Durham also played well on Saturday by shooting a three-over-par 75. Her 3-day total of 5-over-par 221 was good for a tie for 25th place. It was also Durham's third top-25 finish of the season.
Catherina Wang closed her tournament with a final round of 5-over-par 77. Wang finished her season with a tournament of 9-over-par 225 that left her in a tie for 48th place.
Stanford's returning All-American Mari Chun struggled throughout the weekend, closing with a 4-over-par 76. She finished with a 3-day total of 13-over-par 229 in a tie for 71st place.
The final Stanford golfer was Piper Miller who completed the tournament with a score of 32-over-par 248. Miller fired a round of 13-over-par 85 on Saturday to finish the tournament in 106th place.
By losing in the playoff, Stanford completed its season on Saturday. The Cardinal return all five players that competed in the NCAA West Regional to leave a bright future.
