Stanford Finishes 15th at Mason Rudolph Women's Championship

Franklin, Tenn. - Stanford completed their first tournament of the season, the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship on Sunday, finishing in 15th place with a three-day total of 43-over-par 907. For the second consecutive day the Cardinal shot a 9-over-par 297 and moved up one spot in the overall standings.

UCLA captured the tournament title as the Bruins led after each round, finishing with a three-day total of 14-under-par 850. USC had the low round of the day (5-under-par 283) on Sunday as the Trojans moved up to take second place with a total score of 8-under-par 856. Oklahoma State finished third with a score of 1-under-par 863.

Stanford continued to get great golf from a pair of freshmen, Sydney Burlison and Lila Barton. Burlison shot a round of 1-over-par 73 on Sunday to finish with a score of 5-over-par 221. She finished tied for 21st to lead the Cardinal.

Barton fired an even-par round of 72 on Sunday to lead Stanford. Her three-day total of 8-over-par 224 tied her for 39th.

Stanford's top golfer from last season, Mari Chun, finished with a final round of 1-over-par 73. Chun improved steadily over the course of the tournament, carding five birdies on Sunday. Her three-day total of 13-over-par 229 tied her from 56th place.

Also competing for Stanford were Rebecca Durham and Ki-Shui Liao. Durham fired a round of 7-over-par 79 to finish with a score of 17-over-par 233 to tie for 70th. Liao shot an 11-over-par 83 on Sunday to finish with a score of 36-over-par 252, tied for 87th place.

Sydnee Michaels of UCLA shot a 5-under-par 67 on Sunday for a three-day total of 11-under-par 205 to capture the individual medalist honors. Candace Schepperle of Auburn finished in second, four strokes off the lead.

The Cardinal will next compete on Oct. 6-8 at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash. Stanford will compete at Sahalee Country Club, home of the 1998 PGA Championship.
