Kapolei, Hawai'i - The No. 14 Stanford women's golf completed the Kent Youel Invitational on Wednesday in sixth place. The Cardinal shot a three-round total of 22-over-par 886 to finish 19 strokes behind San Francisco who won the tournament with a score of 3-over-par 867.
The Cardinal were led by Mari Chun who overcame a tough first round to shoot an even-par 216. Playing in her home state of Hawai'i, Chun finished with a 2-under-par round of 70 to climb into a tie for fifth place.
Chun finished 13 strokes behind Jane Chin of UC Irvine who posted an impressive score of 13-under-par 203 to take individual medalist honors.
Also finishing with top-25 finishes for Stanford were Rebecca Durham and Sydney Burlison. Durham finished a consistent tournament at 6-over-par 222, after shooting a round of 74 on Wednesday. Burlison struggled after an opening round 69 and finished tied for 24th. She shot a round of 6-over-par 78 on Wednesday.
Completing the scoring golfers for Stanford were Lila Barton and Ki-Shui Liao. Barton shot a round of 2-over-par 74 on Wednesday to finish at 10-over-par 226 and tied for 29th place. Liao finished tied for 55th after shooting 19-over-par 235 for the tournament.
Playing as an individual for Stanford was Piper Miller who finished tied for 38th place. Miller finished 13-over-par for the tournament after a round of 8-over-par 80 in the final round.
The Kent Youel Invitational concludes the fall season for Stanford. They will not compete again until February 9, 2009, when they compete in the Northrop Grumman Challenge, hosted by Ohio State from the Palos Verdes Golf Club, in Palos Verdes, Calif.
