Pasadena, Calif. - Stanford fencing swept through the competition at the Western Invitational on Saturday. Competing against UC San Diego, Cal Tech, and Air Force, the Cardinal men and women both went a perfect 3-0.
The men saw three fencers record perfect records. Freshman Kevin Mo went 9-0 during the competition, including beating each of the top-three fencers from Air Force. His efforts combined with the rest of the team led Stanford to a 18-9 win over the falcons.
Also with perfect scores were Teddy Levitt and Max Murphy, both who went 8-0. The Cardinal went on to beat UCSD 21-6 and Cal Tech 23-1.
Also performing well was Alex Khoshnevissan who went 7-1 after overcoming the hand injury that kept him out of the entire 2007-08 campaign.
The women were led by Eva Jellison who was a perfect 9-0. She led Stanford to easy wins over UCSD (19-8) and Cal Tech (24-3). However, the Cardinal just squeaked out a 14-13 win over Air Force in the only close match of the day.
