Stanford returned to its winning ways in season-openers with a victory in the first game of the year for the sixth time in seven seasons with only a 2007 loss at Cal State Fullerton blemishing that period

Stanford had a seven-game win streak dating back to 2007 snapped with the loss in the nightcap

Cord Phelps extended his hit streak going back to 2007 to a new career-high seven games in the opener and then got a hit in his last at bat of the nightcap to make the streak eight

Stanford head coach Mark Marquess recorded career win number 1286 and is now just 14 away from reaching 1300 and entering the Top 10 all time on the NCAA Division I victory list

The February 22 season-opener was the latest the club has started a campaign since the 1962 team got underway on February 24
