Seattle, Wash. - Day two of the UW Invitational provided more great results for the Stanford track and field teams. On Saturday the women led the way with Lauren Centrowitz and Alicia Follmar gaining NCAA automatic standards in the 3,000 meters.
In the women's 3,000 the pair of Stanford seniors finished second and third overall. Centrowitz placed second with a time of 9:10.99, while Follmar was third with a time of 9:14.98. Both have now punched their tickets to the NCAA Indoor Championships in a second event, a night after doing so in the distance medley relay.
Also faring well in the 3,000 meters was Laurynne Chetelat who finished fifth with an NCAA provisional time of 9:16.70. The Stanford freshman was running in her first track meet of her young career for the Cardinal.
The other top finisher for the women was meet champion, Michaela Wallerstedt in the shot put. Wallerstedt's throw of 49-11 easily outdistanced the UW Invitational field.
Other top finishes came from Tessa Flippin who tied for second in the high jump with a leap of 5-8 and Idara Otu who finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 55.07.
The men were led by a pair of event winners in Amaechi Morton and Ryan Fisicaro. Morton finished with the top time in the 400 meters at 47.42, the only athlete to break 48 seconds in the meet. Fisicaro finished in a dead heat in the 60 meters with a time of 6.82.
Also faring well was Myles Bradley in the long jump. The hurdling specialist who this season has already established the school record in the 60-meter hurdles, finished second in the long jump with a leap of 24-3 ¾.
Just missing a NCAA provisional standard in the 3,000 meters was Justin Marpole-Bird. His time of 8:05.30 missed the provisional standard by three tenths of a second.
Stanford track and field will next compete at the New Mexico Lobo Classic from Albuquerque, N. M. on Feb. 7.
