Stanford Routs UC Davis in Women's Lacrosse

Feb. 25, 2009

Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - The Stanford women's lacrosse team took nearly five minutes before scoring its first goal, but once it started, the Cardinal hardly stopped - scoring 15 consecutive goals in a 20-3 victory over UC Davis on Wednesday.

Sarah Flynn began the streak with the first of her game-high three goals to help No. 16 Stanford improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. In all, 13 players scored for Stanford, including Dana Lindsay (12 goals this season) and Lauren Schmidt (10 goals, eight assists) with two apiece.

Lindsay hit the post with a shot in the opening minute, but Stanford fell behind 1-0 on a free-position shot at three minutes by Christina Corsa. But UC Davis (1-2, 1-2) would not score again until the second half. By that time, Stanford was already ahead 15-1.

In three MPSF games, Stanford has scored 57 goals, an average of 19 per game.

However, the Cardinal defense has been exceptional, allowing only three per game. Co-captain Melissa Vogelsong anchored the defense with four ground ball and four caused turnovers. Maris Perlman was credited with three caused turnovers.

Stanford next travels to South Bend, Ind., for a Saturday game against No. 12 Notre Dame (2-1).
