STANFORD, Calif.- No. 11 Stanford posted its second straight Pac-10 victory on Saturday afternoon, routing No. 38 Washington 6-1 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Stanford extended its winning streak at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium to an unthinkable 141 in a row (113 in the regular season). The Cardinal's last loss in a home match occurred exactly 10 years ago from yesterday, in the form of a 5-4 setback to No. 4 California in 1999.
Stanford (8-2, 2-0 Pac-10) took a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point thanks to victories at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots.
In singles, Veronica Li made quick work of Joyce Ardies 6-1, 6-3 for a 2-0 lead, Jessica Nguyen breezed past Lina Xu 6-1, 6-1 to make it 3-0 and Courtney Clayton provided the clincher at the No. 6 position with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
Washington (7-4, 0-2 Pac-10) avoided the shutout when Venise Chan outlasted Hilary Barte 6-3, 4-6, (10-7) in a battle at the No. 1 spot.
Stanford returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 7, against California at 12 p.m.
