Albuquerque, N.M. - Stanford jumpers and hurdlers highlighted the day at The New Mexico Classic on Saturday. The Cardinal had several event winners and personal bests from the Albuquerque Conventions Center.
The women were led by their pole vaulters who finished 1-2, both posting personal bests. Caitlin Hewitt won the competition with a vault of 12-11 ½, while Natasha Barthel finished second with a height of 12-5 ½.
The other female event winner was Tessa Flippin in the high jump. Flippin leaped 5-5 to defeat teammate Kara Bennett who finished second with a jump of 5-3.
The men were led by J.J. Jackson who won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.06. The time was a personal best for Jackson.
In the 60 meters, Tyrone McGraw led Stanford with a time of 6.92 to finish sixth. Danny Belch also broke seven seconds to finish 11th with a time of 6.98. Belch doubled back in the 200 meters to finish 10th with a time of 22.04.
Stanford will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Seattle, Wash. to compete in the Husky Classic. The meet will take place on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14 from Dempsey Indoor Stadium.
