Stanford's 96 Points Sets School Postseason Record

Stanford defeated Boise State tonight 96-76 in a first round game of the 2009 College Basketball Invitational (CBI), in the process setting the school record for most points in a postseason contest. The Cardinal defeated Houston 93-86 in the first round of the 1991 NIT, and outlasted St. Joseph's, 90-83, in the second round of the 2001 NCAA Tournament's West Regional.

Stanford shot 53.5 percent (38-for-71) from the floor this evening, including 8-of-21 (38.1%) from three-point range. The Cardinal also made 12-of-14 free throws, while its stifling defense forced the Broncos into 22 turnovers.

Three Cardinal players scored in double figures, led by Jeremy Green's 19. Lawrence Hill scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Landry Fields added 16 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Stanford head coach Johnny Dawkins won his postseason debut, while the Cardinal will advance to the second round of the 2009 CBI.

Stanford's Entire Roster Contributing To 20-Point Cardinal Lead

One of the many advantages of the CBI is the opportunity for the two ends of the age spectrum on the Cardinal roster to continue playing. For Stanford's seniors, their career on The Farm extends at least one more game; for the Cardinal freshmen, every game is another opportunity to get better. Tonight's contest has proven to be a perfect example, as head coach Johnny Dawkins has received contributions from up and down his bench. Stanford seniors Kenny Brown (4 pts), Anthony Goods (7 pts, 3 rbs), Lawrence Hill (18 pts, 6 rbs) and Mitch Johnson (5 pts, 3 asts) have all had solid games. A quartet of Cardinal freshmen have made their postseason debuts this evening: Matei Daian (3 rbs), Jeremy Green (17 pts), Jarrett Mann (2 rbs, 2 asts) and Jack Trotter (1rb, 1 ast).

All of that, and more, have added up to a 20-point Stanford advantage with 7:50 remaining, as the Cardinal leads Boise State 78-58 at the mandatory timeout.

Landry Fields just ignited the Stanford faithful with a monster dunk, and has scored 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Lawrence Hill, who had a team-best 14 points at halftime, has added another bucket in the second half and is tied for game-high honors with 16 points total.
