No. 4 Stanford Finishes Fifth At Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship

March 24, 2009

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - Steve Ziegler, David Chung, and Sihwan Kim each scored match victories over their opponents to give the fourth-ranked Stanford men's golf team a victory in the fifth-place match in the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship at The Farms G.C. in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

Chung defeated Andrew Cooley 2 and 1 after taking the lead and holding on to it for good after the eighth hole of play (No. 12), while Kim and Ziegler each won 1-up. Kim took down Alex Kang and never trailed him the entire match. Ziegler, who started on the fifth hole, went down one to Johan Carlsson on the second hole of play and remained there for only one more turn, before taking the lead on No. 9. Carlsson pulled even with one hole left to play, but on No. 4, Ziegler bested him by one stroke.

Dodge Kemmer halved his match with Matt Hoffenberg after trailing most of the time and Daniel Lim fell to Bryan Martin as the Aztec rallied on the last five holes to win 3 and 1.

Middle Tennessee, the seventh seed of the tournament, went on to defeat top-seeded Indiana in the final, 4-1.
