No. 1 Stanford Completes Perfect Trip With 7-2 Victory At Long Beach State

March 28, 2009

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Stanford defense saved its best performance for the final game of the team's four-game Spring Break road trip, limiting Long Beach State to just two goals in the top-ranked Cardinal's 7-2 victory Saturday. The victory, the Cardinal's 17th straight, completes Stanford's (20-1) perfect road trip, while the 49ers fall to 7-13 on the year.

Lauren Silver, playing her final collegiate game in her hometown, scored a goal in the Cardinal's winning effort. Melissa Seidemann led the team with a pair of goals, while, in addition to Silver, Kelly Eaton, Kim Krueger, Alyssa Lo and Pallavi Menon netted goals.

On defense, Amber Oland went the distance, allowing just a pair of goals and making seven saves to anchor the team effort.

Stanford got on the board early and often Saturday, starting the game with three consecutive goals to build a 3-0 first-period lead over Long Beach State. The 49ers would not answer until the second period, cutting the deficit to 3-1, but the Cardinal would go on another three-goal run over the rest of the second period and the start of the third to push its advantage to five at 6-1.

Long Beach State would score its second goal with 3:24 left in the contest before the Cardinal found the back of the cage once more to account for the game's final margin.

Stanford returns home for its final contest of the 2009 campaign at Avery Aquatic Center this week, resuming MPSF play against No. 3 UCLA on Friday, April 3 at 6 p.m. That contest will also be Stanford's Senior Day, as seniors Kore Blyleven, Kira Hillman, Lauren Silver and Heather West will be honored prior to the contest.
