No. 2 Cardinal Extinguishes Flames, 359.700-336.700

STANFORD, Calif. - The second-ranked men's gymnastics team honored its seniors with a 359.7-336.7 win over visiting UIC this evening at Burnham Pavilion. 359.7 sets a new season-high for Stanford, while 12 personal season-bests and three career bests were also achieved.

Junior Eric Hergenrader got the Cardinal started on floor exercise, notching a career best 14.5, while the rest of his teammates swept the top-three finishes on the event. Sophomore Josh Dixon, the nation's leader on floor exercise took home yet another title with a 15.7, while redshirt junior Greg Ter-Zakhariants finished right behind him in second (15.65) and redshirt senior Sho Nakamori came in third (15.25).

On pommel horse, Nakamori notched 14.8 for first place, and Ter-Zakhariants pulled in another third-place finish with a 14.1. Stanford won the event 56.4 - 54.9 over the Flames.

The Cardinal turned in a stellar outing on still rings, as redshirt sophomore Nick Noone, sophomores Kyle Oi and Tim Gentry, and Nakamori hit season-bests. Noone and Oi's scores were also career bests and all four took the three-best scores on the event. Gentry won with a 15.4, Oi took second with 15.15, and Noone and Nakamori shared third with a 15.1.

Stanford dominated UIC on vault, again sweeping the top three spots. Gentry nailed his turn for a 16.15 and his second first-place finish. Dixon came in second with 15.95 and Ter-Zakhariants in third with 15.55. Nakamori also posted a personal season-best 15.0.

The Cardinal tallied a new season-best of 59.05 on parallel bars and scored three individual season bests while sweeping the top-three places. Nakamori took first with 15.55 and Dixon and redshirt senior Jason Shen hit 14.6s.

Stanford closed out the evening on horizontal bar with Dixon earning his second event title (15.1). Gentry posted a 14.6 for second and senior Bryant Hadden and Ter-Zakhariants tied for third (14.5). Also, Nakamori was the top all-arounder of four competitors on the evening with a season-best 89.750.

The Cardinal, now 7-4 against NCAA teams, will next prepare for postseason competition, and will host the MPSF Championships at Maples Pavilion next Saturday, April 4, at 4 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase online or at the Stanford Athletics ticket office.
