Stanford, Calif. - Hosting the Pac-10 Championships at the Stanford Golf Course for the first time since 1999, The Cardinal finished sixth against their highly competitive conference foes. For a second consecutive day Stanford fired a round of 10-over-par 294 to finish at 38-over-par 890. Arizona State shot a round of 6-inder-par 278 to finish at even par for the tournament and claim the Pac-10 title.
The Sun Devils continued their outstanding play on Sunday to win the tournament by nine strokes over USC. USC settled for the runner-up position, coming from behind to pass UCLA on the back nine. The Women of Troy finished at 9-over-par 861, while the Bruins were third at 12-over-par 864.
Arizona held on for fourth place with a score of 32-over-par 884, while a hard charging California team took fifth at 35-over-par 887. The Golden Bears shot even-par on Sunday to overtake Stanford and finish three strokes clear of the Cardinal.
Individually, Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State took the medalist honors with a par on the first playoff hole. She finished with a three-day total of 3-under-par 210, which tied her with teammate, Jennifer Osborn and Jennifer Song of USC through regulation. A nice up and down on the playoff hole gave the Sun Devil freshman the individual crown.
Rebecca Durham led Stanford with steady play throughout the tournament. Durham carded an even-par 71 on Sunday to finish at 7-over-par 220. Her tied for 16th-place finish eclipsed her 34th-place finish of last year.
Also with a top-20 finish for Stanford was Lila Barton who tied for 20th. The Stanford freshman shot a round 1-over-par 72 to finish at 10-over-par 223 for the weekend.
Senior Mari Chun struggled on her final day after staying in contention for the individual title for the first two rounds. On Sunday Chun fired a round of 9-over-par 81 to finish at 12-over-par 225, tied for 24th place. Chun recorded top-25 finishes all four years she competed at the Pac-10 Championships for Stanford.
Finishing tied for 31st with a three-day total of 14-over-par 227 was Angela King. King carded a steady round of 4-over-par 75 on Sunday, which did not include a birdie, but also avoided any big numbers.
Freshman Sydney Burlison finished with her best round of the tournament, a 5-over-par 76 on Sunday. Burlison placed 39th for the championship with a three-day total of 22-over-par 235.
At the conclusion of the championship the All-Pac-10 teams were announced with Mari Chun and Sydney Burlison being named to the All-Pac-10 second team.
The Cardinal will now await the announcement from the NCAA on Monday when the regional selections are revealed. Four sites will host the NCAA regionals from May 7-9.
