STANFORD, Calif.- No. 13 Stanford looked dominant in a 4-0 shutout of No. 25 LSU on Sunday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium, punching its ticket to College Station, Texas- the site of next weekend's NCAA Championships round of 16.
Stanford will now square off against No. 4 Baylor on Friday, May 15, at 4 p.m. PT. The Lady Bears defeated the Cardinal 4-1 in last year's quarterfinal round, representing Stanford's earliest exit in the postseason since 1998.
Playing in its 28th consecutive NCAA Tournament, Stanford improved its all-time postseason record to 109-13. The Cardinal has won 15 NCAA championships, including five of the last eight seasons.
Additionally, Stanford has now won 151 consecutive matches (121 regular season, 30 NCAA Tournament) at home- a streak that spans 10 seasons and is recognized as the longest active home winning streak among all sports in Division I athletics. The Cardinal has not lost at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium since a 5-4 setback against No. 4 California back on Feb. 27, 1999.
Stanford (19-4, 6-2 Pac-10), which has won 14 of its last 16 matches, looked extremely sharp against LSU (14-11, 3-7 SEC) on Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinal set the tone in doubles, quickly claiming a 1-0 lead with commanding performances on all three courts. The No. 3 team of Logan Hansen and Veronica Li sealed the doubles point with an 8-3 win. Stanford has captured the doubles point in 19 of its 23 matches this year, and is 17-2 when that's the case.
Lindsay Burdette contributed a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 position, followed quickly by Jessica Nguyen's 6-1, 6-4 win on court three.
Leading 3-0, Stanford secured the match victory when Li notched her first career postseason win with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph on court four.
