Fayetteville, Ark. - The Stanford men continued a strong meet on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas. Three more Stanford men earned All-America honors on their way to a seventh-place national finish.
The Cardinal men finished with 30 points to finish seventh. Texas A&M won the meet with 48 points. The Texas A&M women were also crowned national champs, finishing with 50 points. The Cardinal women scored six points to tie for 43rd.
Garrett Heath led the Stanford men, finishing as the national runner-up in the 1,500 meters. Heath finished with a time of 3:39.51, just a half second behind the NCAA champion, German Fernandez of Oklahoma State who finished with a time of 3:39.00. Heath concludes his Stanford career as a nine-time All-American with the best individual national finish of his career.
Also faring well on the track for Stanford was Myles Bradley in the 110-meter hurdles. Bradley placed fourth with a time of 13.81 to earn the second All-America honor of his career. He also placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles during the indoor season. Ronnie Ash of Bethune-Cookman took the title with a time of 13.27.
Representing Stanford in the field events was Daniel Schaerer in the discus. Schaerer placed third with a toss of 194-9 to earn the first All-America honor of his career. Martin Maric of California captured the NCAA title with a toss of 196-3.
The women were led by Lauren Centrowitz who placed third in the 1,500 meters. Centrowitz finished with a time of 4:14.22, but trailed Susan Kuijken of Florida State who captured the title with a time of 4:13.05. Centrowitz earned the eighth All-America honor of her decorated career.
In the field events, Whitney Liehr placed 11th in the triple jump with a mark of 42-3 ¼. Liehr did earn the second All-America honor of her career after also earning one during the indoor season in the pentathlon.
The NCAA meet concludes the collegiate season for Stanford track and field. However, several Stanford athletes will continue their season into the summer at the USATF Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 24-28.
