Four Doubles Teams Still Alive At ITA Northwest Regionals

Oct. 25, 2009

Singles and Doubles Draws | Preseason ITA Rankings

STANFORD, Calif.- Hilary Barte has reached the singles quarterfinals while all four Stanford doubles teams remain in contention through the first two days of competition at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northwest Championships at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Barte is into the quarterfinals after notching a 6-0, 6-4 win over Pacific's Jennifer Widjaja.

Lindsay Burdette, Carolyn McVeigh and Stacy Tan also qualified for the round of 16 before suffering losses.

Mallory Burdette also reached the round of 16, but a result from her match was unavailable.

Meanwhile, Stanford has been very impressive in the doubles draw. Logan Hansen and Jennifer Yen upset the No. 1-seeded duo of Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova from Californai 9-8 to reach the semifinals. The victory creates an all-Stanford semifinal on the top half of the bracket, with Mallory Burdette and Tan also advancing.

The possibility for another all-Stanford semifinal clash exists in the bottom half of the bracket as well. The teams of Veronica Li and Carolyn McVeigh, and Lindsay Burdette and Barte, could match up if both squads win their quarterfinal matches.

Play resumes Sunday morning.
