Singles and Doubles Draws | Preseason ITA Rankings
STANFORD, Calif.- Stanford's top doubles team of Hilary Barte and Lindsay Burdette cruised to an 8-3 victory over California's duo of Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova in the championship match of the Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Monday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
In a rematch of the 2009 NCAA Doubles Championship, Barte and Burdette avenged a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Andersson and Juricova last year that crowned the Cal tandem as national champions.
Monday's contest was just another chapter in a series of tough battles between the two teams. Prior to last year's national championship affair, the teams split their regular season meetings in 2009 with each squad winning on the opponents' home court.
The possibility of an all-Stanford doubles final was eliminated in the semifinals, when Andersson and Juricova ended the impressive tournament run of Mallory Burdette and Stacy Tan by an 8-1 count.
Washington's Denise Dy defeated Juricova 6-3, 6-3 in the singles championship.
Stanford is back in action next week, with a split squad participating at the Arizona State Invitational and the ITA National Indoor Championships.
