Richartz Within Striking Distance of Top-10

Nov. 7, 2009

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas-- Stanford freshman Eliza Richartz is within striking distance of a top-10 finish at the ICSA/LaserPerformance Singlehanded Nationals, dropping a spot to No. 11 on day two of the three-day regatta, tallying 160 points after 16 of 18 races.

Richartz, who was in tenth place after the first five races, finished in the top-10 just four more times over the next 12 races, as she was forced to deal with breezy conditions following light air to start the day.

Richartz, who finished seventh in the sixth race, and first of  two, follow that up with a fourth place showing in the eighth event. But over the final six contests, Richartz could not get any lower than 10th , finishing the day with back-to-back 10th place showings.

Richartz' 160 points is within 23 points of Saint Mary's Sara Watters, in 10th place and 24 points of ninth place Mayumi Roller, also of SMC.

Cardinal teammate Wade Hatton, who battled an inner ear infection after day one, is in 14th place of 18 sailors with a score of 204, coming back to finish eighth in the 14th and 15th races.
