STANFORD, Calif.- (AP) Roderick Pearson hit a running jumper as time expired to give Oral Roberts an 83-81 victory over Stanford in the first round of the Cancun Challenge on Wednesday night at Maples Pavilion.
Dominique Morrison scored seven of his career-high 31 points in the final 1:30 for the Golden Eagles (2-1), who won their second straight game. Michael Craion added 13 points, including two key free throws in the final minute. Damen Bell-Holter added 12 points.
Landry Fields scored a career-high 28 points to lead Stanford (1-2) while Jeremy Green added 20 points and Jarrett Mann chipped in with a career-high 11, thanks mainly to a 7-11 mark from the foul line.
There were 16 ties and 17 lead changes in the contest. Oral Roberts shot 49.2 percent from the floor compared to Stanford's 48.1 percent mark. The Golden Eagles held a 38-28 rebounding edge while Stanford finished with a 21-30 mark from the charity stripe compared to Oral Roberts' 15-18 clip.
Oral Roberts raced out to its biggest lead of the game at the 8:43 mark of the first half at 25-11. But Stanford battled back to tie the game at 35-35 heading into halftime.
Despite trailing for much of the second half as well, Stanford went ahead 72-69 with 3:54 remaining on a triple by Green and extended it to a five-point game at 77-72 following another three-pointer from Green two minutes later.
Trailing 81-79 with seven seconds left, Fields converted on a lay-up following a timeout to square the game at 81-81.
Pearson then secured the victory with his game-winner.

Landry Fields recorded his third straight 20-point game to open the season, connecting on 10-19 chances from the field while knocking down three triples. He also hauled down six boards and dished out five assists in 39 minutes ... Jeremy Green registered the second 20-point game of his career, making 4-9 from beyond the arc while grabbing six rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench ... Two Stanford players scored at least 20 points in the same game for the first time since Nov. 20, 2007, when Lawrence Hill (25) and Robin Lopez (24) accomplished the feat in a win over Yale ... Stanford suffered its first loss to a non-conference opponent at Maples Pavilion since a 90-86 double-overtime setback against Gonzaga back on Jan. 31, 2007. The Cardinal is now 31-6 in its last 37 home games dating back to the start of the 2007-08 campaign ... Jarrett Mann dished out eight of Stanford's 17 assists ... The Cardinal grabbed only three offensive rebounds.
