REDWOOD CITY, Calif.-- Halloween proved to be a winning backdrop at the North Frosh/Soph Regatta, as the host Cardinal's top group of youngsters won the five-race regatta with 10 points on Saturday, beating Cal by 10-to-14.
Eliza Richartz and Alysha Desouza led Stanford to first place in the third and fourth races and finished second in the first and fifth races to lead the group of 17 boats on the San Francisco Bay.
Cal had a fast start, winning the first two races, keeping it close with second place showings in the third and fourth races, before an eighth place showing pushed them into second. UCLA was third with 16 points.
Stanford's second squad of freshmen scored 19 points, staking a claim to the No. 4 slot following a first place showing over their Cardinal teammates in the final race.
Wade Hatton and Eliza Richartz head to Singlehanded Nationals beginning on Thursday in Corpus Christi, Texas.
