NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Junior Hilary Barte cruised past North Carolina's Sanaz Marand 6-4, 6-1 in the opening round of the ITA National Indoor Championships on Thursday afternoon.
Unseeded in the draw, Barte now faces Washington's Denise Dy on Friday at 7:30 a.m. PT.
Barte also advanced on the doubles side, joining senior Lindsay Burdette in an 8-6 victory over the North Carolina duo of Sophie Grabinski and Sanaz Marand.
The No. 2 seed in the doubles draw, Barte and Burdette will battle Oklahoma's Ana-Maria Constantinescu and Teona Tsertsvadze at 5 a.m. PT.
