LUBBOCK, Texas- Mike Singletary scored 24 of his season-high 28 points in the second half to lift No. 23/- Texas Tech past Stanford 100-87 on Tuesday night, keeping the Red Raiders unbeaten at home.
Singletary, who got into foul trouble early and played just seven minutes in the first half, didn't attempt a free throw before halftime and then hit 7 of 11 over the final 20 minutes.
Stanford (5-6) led by as many as five points late in the first half, trailed 42-38 at halftime and trimmed an 18-point second-half deficit down to eight with just over a minute remaining. The Cardinal also received another outstanding performance from Landry Fields, who registered his fifth double-double of the year with 27 points and 11 boards in 40 minutes.
Fields, who is now averaging 23.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, posted his seventh consecutive 20-point game, becoming the first Stanford player to accomplish the feat since Adam Keefe scored 20 points in seven straight games during the 1991-92 campaign. Through 11 games, Fields is leading the Cardinal in scoring (23.4 points per game), rebounding (9.0 per game), free throw shooting (69-95 at 72.6 percent) and steals (23).
However, Texas Tech (10-1) used a strong surge in the second half to secure the victory, scoring 58 points over the final 20 minutes while shooting 54.5 percent for the contest.
Jeremy Green added a career-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds in 38 minutes for Stanford, which shot 40.5 percent overall.
Three days after being whistled for 28 fouls at Northwestern, Stanford committed 34 fouls on Tuesday night as Texas Tech cashed in with a 33-48 clip from the foul line.
The Red Raiders took their biggest lead at 85-67 when D'walyn Roberts hit a layup with 4:30 remaining.
The Cardinal cut the led to 95-87 when Elliott Bullock stole the ball from Darko Cohadarevic and Gabriel Harris nailed a triple with 1:01 left.
David Tairu scored 17 and John Roberson added 14 for Texas Tech, which held a 40-37 rebounding edge and dished out 18 assists on 30 buckets.
Texas Tech was coming off an 85-83 loss at Wichita State, which dropped them from No. 16 to 23rd nationally this week.
Texas Tech went up 57-43 after Roberson hit a three-pointer to cap a 15-5 run to open the second half. The Red Raiders got four baskets, including Roberson's trey, within a 1:19 span.
The Cardinal used a 9-2 run, including two layups by Fields and a three-pointer by Drew Shiller, to pull within 61-52 with 11:33 remaining.
