Stanford, Calif. - Stanford got their home season off to a good start by defeating Incarnate Word by a score of 22-20 on Friday evening at the Avery Aquatic Center. The Cardinal edged the Cardinals in both `A' Elements and `B' Figures.
In `A' Elements Lyssa Wallace of Incarnate Word had the top score of 77.280, but the Cardinal prevailed with the higher average score, 75.740 to 74.883.
Debbie Chen led Stanford with a score of 76.620 to finish second overall. Just behind Chen, were her teammates Erin Bell and Taylor Durand. Bell was third with a score of 76.500, while Durand was fourth with a score of 75.940.
Corinne Smith also competed in `A' Elements and finished eighth with a score of 73.900.
In `B' Figures the Cardinal swept the top six places on their way to a convincing victory. Stanford averaged 71.345 points to easily outdistance Incarnate Word who had an average of 67.456.
Maria Koroleva led the Stanford swimmers in `B' Figures with a score of 73.245. Finishing second was Olivia Morgan with a score of 73.223, while Koko Urata was third with a score of 71.968.
The next three Stanford finishers placing fourth through sixth were Alex Bollaidlaw (71.255), Morgan Fuller (70.989) and Michelle Moore (70.479).
Rounding out the Stanford squad was Allison Coates in ninth place with a score of 68.255.
The Cardinal were awarded the full 12 points for `A' Elements and the full 10 points for `B' Figures to reach their total of 22 points for the meet.
Stanford will be right back in the pool on Saturday afternoon when they face Incarnate Word again, this time competing in the solo, duet, trio and team routines. The meet begins at 4 p.m. from the Avery Aquatic Center.
