STANFORD, Calif. - Despite a close first period, No. 1 Stanford found the next gear and pulled away from Sonoma State while posting a 17-6 victory Saturday morning at Avery Aquatic Center.
Pallavi Menon scored a team-high four goals while Victoria Kennedy found the back of the cage three times as Stanford (8-0) won its eighth straight game to start the season.
Stanford will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 20, for a 12 p.m. contest at San Jose State.
Along with the scoring from Kennedy and Menon, Stanford got a pair of goals each Saturday from Vee Dunlevie, Jillian Garton and Melissa Seidemann. Individual goals were also scored by Mimi Bury, Alex Koran, Alexis Lee and Alyssa Lo.
In the cage, Kim Hall played the first and fourth periods, making three saves, while Kate Baldoni played the middle portions of the game, stopping five shots.
The teams played to a stalemate in the first period, each scoring four goals, but Stanford was able to gain a slight edge over the second eight minutes, taking a 7-5 lead by halftime.
Stanford would assert its dominance as the second half got underway, as the Cardinal exploded for six unanswered goals to take a 13-5 lead and take control of the contest in the third period.
The Cardinal would add four more goals in the final eight minutes, against just one for the SeaWolves, to account for the final score of 17-6.
