Final Stats

LOS ANGELES - Carly Janiga shared first place in the floor exercise for Stanford's only individual victory, but the No. 8 Cardinal had the depth to beat No. 5 UCLA, 195.975-195.625, in a women's gymnastics dual meet at Pauley Pavilion on Saturday.

The victory gave Stanford (7-2) a dual-meet sweep of the Bruins, having earlier won at Stanford on Jan. 24. Stanford and UCLA (6-2) have won the past 13 Pacific-10 championships and have swapped conference titles each year since 2003.

Stanford trailed after the first two rotations (uneven bars and vault), 98.525-98.050, but overtook UCLA on the third after two Bruin falls on the balance beam, forcing them to count one fall in the scoring. Meanwhile, Stanford scored a 49.275 on the floor, the team's best event score of the day. The Cardinal got a boost from Janiga's 9.90 and 9.875's from Ashley Morgan and Nicole Pechanec, to go in front 147.325-147.075.

The Cardinal maintained the lead by sticking five of its six beam routines on the final rotation, and getting a team-high 9.85 from Shelley Alexander.

Among the individual highlights was the 9.825 on the vault by freshman Nicole Dayton, who finished second. Dayton had competed only once previously, but this was by far her best performance.

Senior captain Allyse Ishino competed on the floor for the first time in her collegiate career, scoring a 9.80 with a routine that she choreographed and featured her considerable dance skills. By doing so, she completed her first collegiate all-around with a score of 39.100.

UCLA's Vanessa Zamarripa, who won the beam and tied for first in the floor, won the all-around with a 39.550, just ahead of runner-up Janiga, who scored 39.325.

Stanford has now won seven of its 12 meetings in the series since 2007 and breaks UCLA's streak of nine consecutive home victories against Pac-10 teams.

The Cardinal next travels to Arizona State for a Feb. 19 dual, before returning for its final home meet, taking on California, North Carolina and Eastern Michigan on Feb. 28 (2 p.m.) at Maples Pavilion.
