MALIBU, Calif. - Evan Romero had 19 kills, a Stanford season-high for a three-set match, but could not prevent the No. 2 Cardinal from losing to No. 4 Pepperdine, 30-28, 30-27, 30-27, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball match on Friday night at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Stanford (7-4, 6-4) hit a season-high .495 as a team, with Romero leading the way with only three errors in 26 attacks for a .615 hitting percentage. But Pepperdine (7-4, 7-3) hit even better, at .544, the highest percentage for a Stanford opponent this season. The teams combined for only 23 attack errors.

Brad Lawson had 16 kills and a .407 hitting percentage, and Spencer McLachlin had 11 kills and no errors in 21 attacks for the Cardinal, which plays at No. 3 USC on Saturday night.
