AUSTIN, Texas- No. 14 Stanford completed a sweep of its Texas road trip on Saturday afternoon, knocking off No. 27 Texas 5-2 while improving to 4-0 overall.
The Cardinal opened the trip with a 6-1 victory over No. 24 TCU on Friday afternoon.
Stanford took an early 1-0 lead against Texas by winning the doubles point. The Cardinal won at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots, but lost just its first doubles match of the year when the No. 2 duo of Mallory Burdette and Stacey Tan was upended 9-8 (5).
Mallory Burdette put the Cardinal in front 2-0 after she defeated Caroline Larsson 6-2, 6-0 on court four. But Vanja Corovic brought the Longhorns (1-3) within 2-1 after she posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Tan at the No. 3 position.
Lindsay Burdette and Carolyn McVeigh followed with back-to-back victories, clinching the match.
Stanford is back in action on Thursday, Feb. 11, with a home contest against Sacramento State at 1:30 p.m.
