DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 8 Stanford women's gymnastics team earned four career bests on the vault on the way to a 196.600-194.575 victory over UC Davis in a dual-meet finale Sunday.
Senior captain Carly Janiga led the way with a 9.95 on vault, setting a collegiate career best for the six-time All-America. She would win the vault, balance beam and all-around (39.575) as the Cardinal swept to victories in each event. Freshman Ashley Morgan (floor exercise) and sophomore Alyssa Brown (uneven bars) were the other Stanford winners.
Stanford (14-2) extended its winning streak to 11 heading into the Pacific-10 Championships next Sunday in Tucson, Ariz., while UC Davis ended its dual-meet season at 13-4.
The Cardinal counted five scores of 9.875 or above to score a season-high 49.450 on the vault and take a substantial 98.800-97.175 lead after the first two rotations, with Brown contributing heavily.
Brown, a 2008 Canadian Olympic alternate, scored three season bests, tying her career best in two. She began with a 9.9 to win the uneven bars and followed with a 9.85 in her first competitive vault in a year.
Brown and Janiga highlighted Stanford's performances on the beam. Brown led off with a career-best 9.875 and Janiga scored a 9.925 to allow Stanford to earn its fourth-best score in 10 meets this season.
Overall, Stanford set or tied eight career and nine season bests. Among the highlights were a 9.875 career-best vault by leadoff Blair Ryland and a 9.875 on the bars by sophomore Jenny Peter.
