No. 9 Stanford Routs Cincinnati

Stanford, Calif. - No. 9 Stanford improved to 5-2 on the season with a convincing win over Cincinnati on a sunny afternoon at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. The Cardinal jumped out to big lead and cruised past the Bearcats, 19-4. Dana Lindsay led Stanford with five goals.

The Cardinal were playing its first game in over two weeks due to a layoff for dead week and finals. Despite the break, Stanford did not return sluggish, scoring the first 12 goals of the game.

"I was really proud of the team after the long layoff," said head coach Amy Bokker. "I thought we played with great energy and discipline."

Lindsay got the Cardinal on the board just 3:12 into the game with her first of five goals. The goals for Lindsay all came in the initial 12-0 onslaught by the Cardinal. She now has a team-leading 16 for the season and 91 for her career.

Adding to the Stanford scoring with multiple goals were Sarah Flynn, Amanda Schwab, Anna Boeri and Lauren Schmidt. Flynn also added three assists.

Claire Hubbard had a pair of assists giving here a team-leading 15. Hubbard continues her ascent up the Stanford all-time list with 62, just eight off the school record.

Other goal scorers for Stanford were Emilie Boeri, Carolyn Bradley, Julie Christy, Leslie Foard, Maria Fortino and Karen Nesbitt.

Stanford dominated every facet of the game, including outshooting Cincinnati 35-9. The Cardinal totaled 21 ground balls to just eight for the Bearcats and won 13 of 25 draw controls.

Annie Read played all 60 minutes in goal for Stanford to improve her record to 5-2. Read made four saves and lowered her goals against average to 10.19 on the season.

After playing five straight home games, the Cardinal will now head back out on the road for a pair of games. Thursday, March 25, the Cardinal will take on No. 2 Maryland, followed by Towson on Sunday, March 28. The undefeated Terrapins should provide a difficult test for Stanford. Stanford is 2-2 versus ranked teams this season.
