MALIBU, Calif.- No. 12 Stanford posted its fourth straight victory on Wednesday afternoon, taking down No. 51 Pepperdine in Malibu to begin a road swing that features three matches to be played over four days.
The Cardinal (11-1, 0-0 Pac-10) now turns its attention to conference play, facing the Arizona schools this weekend in its first two Pac-10 counting matches of the year.
Pepperdine (6-11, 0-0 WCC) dropped its second consecutive match and has now lost six of its last eight overall.
Stanford swept all three doubles matches, taking a 1-0 lead into singles.
The Cardinal also dominated singles play, winning five matches in straight sets. Mallory Burdette picked up her team-leading 22nd victory with a 6-2, 6-0 decision on court four, before Hilary Barte won her 15th consecutive match to remain undefeated in 12 duals with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the No. 1 spot.
Pepperdine briefly stayed alive and cut the lead to 3-1 following Anamika Bhargava's 6-2, 7-5 upset of Lindsay Burdette at the No. 2 spot.
But Veronica Li tacked on a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 6 position to clinch the match.
