LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Sophomore two-meter Melissa Seidemann posted another hat trick Saturday, scoring four goals to lead the second-ranked Stanford women's water polo team to an 11-6 road victory at No. 4 UCLA.
Stanford (18-1, 4-0 MPSF) concludes its weekend road trip Sunday afternoon, traveling to Long Beach State for a 12 p.m. contest.
Along with the four goals from Seidemann, Kelly Eaton, Kelsey Holshouser and Pallavi Menon each scored twice and freshman Annika Dries added a goal.
In the cage, Amber Oland went the distance, making 10 saves and limiting the Bruin offense as the Cardinal was able to build a big lead before halftime.
Amber Oland got the start and made nine saves in three-plus periods of action, while Kate Baldoni came on in the fourth and finished things off.
After taking a 1-0 lead early, the Cardinal gave up back-to-back goals to the Bruins, but that would be the only time Stanford trailed all day. The Cardinal responded with three straight goals to end the first period, then Kelly Eaton's five-meter penalty shot in the second frame started a two-goal spurt that made it 6-2 Stanford.
The teams would trade goals before the end of the half, as the Cardinal took a 7-3 lead into the locker room.
After the Cardinal scored twice to UCLA's one goal in the third for a 9-4 lead, the Bruins opened the fourth period with a goal to make it 9-5. But that was as close as the Bruins would get the rest of the way, as Menon and Dries capped Stanford's scoring with back-to-back goals to make it 11-4.
