Stanford, Calif. - Saturday marked the completion of the Stanford Invitational from Cobb Track and Angell Field. Thousands of high school and collegiate athletes participated in the two-day meet that annually provides some of the top marks in the nation. This year was no different with several Stanford athletes taking advantage of the stacked fields to better their career-best marks.
The men were led by Dylan Ferris who captured the 800 meters with his outdoor collegiate-best time of 1:48.72. Ferris continues his strong season, two weeks after earning the first All-America honor of his career in the indoor mile. The 800-meter time was also the second-fastest in the NCAA this outdoor season.
Another top finisher for Stanford was Amaechi Morton in the 200 meters. A day after winning the 400 meters, Morton ran a personal best of 21.33 to finish second in the 200. The time moved him to 10th all-time at Stanford in the event.
Both Ferris and Morton teamed with Justin Reed and Durell Coleman in the 4x400 meters. In the meet's closing event, Stanford took the title with a time of 3:11.90.
In the 4x100-meter relay, the Cardinal won its heat and had the top time of the day at 40.78. The Cardinal team was made up of Daniel Belch, Tyrone McGraw, Zach Chandy and Ryan Fisicaro.

The women were led by Whitney Liehr in the triple jump. Liehr posted a mark of 42-2, which won the competition. Liehr was an All-American in the event last year and her mark on Saturday was the best in the NCAA so far this year during the young season.
Liehr also competed in the final of the 100-meter hurdles where she placed sixth with a time of 14.15.
In the pole vault, Katerina Stefanidi advanced to a jump-off with Melissa Gergel before finishing second. Stefanidi matched her collegiate best with a mark of 14-1 ¼.
Also faring well in the field events was Jaynie Goodbody in the hammer. Goodbody tossed 181-6 to finish third in the invitational section of the event. On the track, Shataya Hendricks led Stanford in the 200 meters where she had the 10th-fastest time of the day (24.60). In the 800, Madeline Duhon led Stanford with a time of 2:11.44. The Cardinal will be back in action next weekend with a couple of possibilities for meets including the Texas Relays, the UCLA Invitational and the Johnny Mathis Invitational.
