Stanford, Calif. - The No. 15 women's lacrosse team scored early and often on its way to a 19-7 win over Davidson. The Cardinal scored the games first eight goals and never looked back, improving to 3-2 on the season. Dana Lindsay led the Cardinal with four goals, while Claire Hubbard contributed five assists.
Stanford put together a complete game as the Cardinal dominated play throughout.
"I was pleased overall," said head coach Amy Bokker. "We were controlling draw controls, controlling the pace and having good possessions on the attack."
Stanford got on the board right away, when Amanda Schwab found Sarah Flynn for a goal just 1:31 into the game. The goal was a team-leading 10th for Flynn who added her 11th later in the game.
Stanford continued to score one goal after the next, building an 8-0 lead just 9:35 into the half. The Cardinal did an outstanding job on draw controls, refusing Davidson to have more than a couple of possessions early on.
Three of the eight early goals came from the same connection, Hubbard finding Lindsay. Hubbard took possession behind the goal and found a cutting Lindsay three separate times for a goal. Lindsay also added an unassisted goal for four in the first nine minutes of the game. Lindsay now has nine goals on the season.
Davidson finally got on the board with 18:01 left in the half and scored three of the next four goals to get within six, 9-3. The Wildcats would get no closer, however, as the Cardinal got back to its scoring ways and built a 15-4 halftime lead.
Anna Boeri and Catherine Swanson got into the scoring, both netting a pair of first-half goals.
The Cardinal dominated possession in the first half, winning 15 of 20 draw controls. The Cardinal also forced 13 turnover and grabbed 18 ground balls in the half.
The second half allowed the Cardinal to use more of its bench, while a running clock limited the possessions in the half.
"I wanted us to play for 60 minutes," said Bokker. "Everyone was able to play, but we were able to maintain the same level of play."
The Cardinal outscored Davidson 5-4 in the half, to finish off the 19-7 victory. Amanda Schwab added her second goal of the game, while Karen Nesbitt tallied a goal and an assist in the half.
Annie Read was solid in goal, finishing with six saves. Read improved her record to 3-2 on the season.
The Cardinal will be back in action on Sunday, March 7, when it takes on No. 14 Vanderbilt in a matchup of ranked teams. The game will be back at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Stanford continues it tough early schedule with its fourth ranked team in six games.
