No. 14 Women's Tennis Defeats No. 5 Cal 5-2

BERKELEY, Calif.- No. 14 Stanford posted its most impressive victory of the season, defeating No. 5 California 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in Berkeley.

The Cardinal improved to 9-1 while the Golden Bears are now 9-3.

Stanford swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.

Mallory Burdette gave the Cardinal a 2-0 lead when she overwhelmed Kasia Siwosz 6-0, 6-1 on court four. Shortly after, ninth-ranked Hilary Barte defeated second-ranked Jana Juricova 6-3, 6-3 in a battle of top-10 players at the No. 1 position to give Stanford a 3-0 advantage.

Trailing 3-0, the Golden Bears picked up wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, respectively, to cut the lead to 3-2.

Veronica Li provided the clincher when she outlasted Nelly Radeva 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 on court six.

Stanford is back in action on Mar. 21 against Cal Poly.
