STANFORD, Calif.- For the eighth consecutive season, the Stanford field hockey program has been honored with at least 10 SGI/NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) National Academic Squad selections.
This year's list has the Cardinal represented with 12 honorees.
To be recognized as an Academic Squad member a student-athlete has to achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year.
This year's honorees include: junior Heather Alcorn, freshman Emily Henriksson, freshman Devon Holman, freshman Julia LaSalvia, freshman Kelsey Lloyd, senior Jennifer Luther, freshman Katie Mitchell, senior Rachel Mozenter, freshman Colleen Ryan, senior Marlana Shile, junior Xanthe Travlos and senior Midori Uehara.
In addition, Stanford was honored for its collective team GPA as a 2009 Collegiate National Academic squad. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year.
Stanford (17-5, 5-1 NorPac) enjoyed its best season in program history in 2009, establishing a school record with 17 victories. The Cardinal captured the NorPac Tournament championship for the third straight season and remained a fixture in the national rankings for more than two months. Stanford won its second NCAA Play-In game in three seasons and reached the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in school history. Stanford's record-setting season was due in large part to its high-powered offense, as the Cardinal established single-season school records in goals (87), assists (60), points (234) and shots (410).
