April 26, 2010

Box Score

SANTA CLARA, Calif.-- Santa Clara (15-22) snapped No. 18-ranked Stanford's (21-14) eight-game win streak with a 9-3 win on Monday evening.

Sophomore Scott Colton was the only offense for the Cardinal, hitting a three-run home run (1) for his first career hit and home run in his second career at-bat.

In a pitcher's duel until the sixth, Santa Clara scored four runs in the sixth off of three Cardinal pitchers to lead 4-0.  The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Broncos.

Danny Sandbrink (1-1), who allowed just two hits over the first five shutout innings, tired, loading the bases, before reliever Scott Snodgress gave up an RBI single to Curtis Wagner followed by a three-run triple to pinch hitter Pat Stover to make it 4-0.

It was Sandbrink's longest career outing since a complete game win at the 2008 NCAA Regional and four innings in 2009 and in the 2008 College World Series.

Tommy Medica added to the lead in the seventh with a two-run home run (8) off the centerfield scoreboard to make it 6-0. Geoff Klein then took Chris Jenkins third pitch of the game to right field to make it 7-0. Santa Clara added two runs in the eighth to lead 9-0.

Stanford, a game back in the Pac-10 standings, heads to Washington for a three-game series this weekend, Friday at 6 p.m with Brett Mooneyham (1-4, 5.83) and Saturday at 6:30 p.m at Safeco Field with Jordan Pries (3-1, 3.39) throwing.
