No. 11 Stanford Begins Conference Season With A Win

Fresno, Calif. - No. 11 Stanford kicked off the conference season with a 19-4 victory over Fresno State. The Cardinal improved to 7-4 (1-0, MPSF) with the big victory over the Bulldogs who are in just their second season as a varsity program.

Fresno State kicked off the scoring and took a 1-0 lead early in the game, but the Cardinal then scored nine unanswered goals to take control of the game. Amanda Schwab got Stanford on the board at the 26:41 mark with her first of four goals on the evening and the Cardinal took control from there.

In all, nine players scored for Stanford, including multi-goal games from seven players. Along with the four goals from Schwab, Anna Boeri, Julie Christy, Sarah Flynn, Leslie Foard Dana Lindsay and Maggie Sachs each scored a pair of goals.

In addition, Lauren Schmidt and Catherine Swanson also found the back of the net for the 19 Cardinal goals.

Claire Hubbard once again led the offensive attack with her passing, totaling three assists. The Cardinal senior now has 21 assists on the year and 68 for her career. She is just two assists shy of matching Kelsey Twist at the top of the all-time Stanford assist list with 70.

The game was never in doubt for Stanford as the Cardinal outshot Fresno State, 39-14. Stanford collected 15 of 24 draw controls and turned the ball over just five times to keep possession much of the game.

In net, Annie Read collected six saves and lowered her goals against average to 10.63 on the season.

Stanford will complete its busy week on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., when it travels to Berkeley to face California. The Cardinal will look to improve to 2-0 in the MPSF against its Bay Area rival.
