STANFORD, Calif.-- Patrick Wisdom homered twice and host No. 22-ranked Stanford (13-11) dropped its third straight, following a 7-3 loss to the visiting Gaels (9-15-1) on Wednesday evening.
Kyle Barraclough (2-3) picked up the win, pitching three perfect innings starting in the third, scattering four hits and one run over 4.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Wisdom's first of two homers, capped a five-run third inning to give the Gaels a 5-2 lead. Reliever Garrett Hughes(0-1) walked four in the inning, the fourth to walk in SMC's first run. Wisdom then hit the first pitch from Dean McArdle over the left field wall for a 5-2 lead.
Wisdom homered again in the sixth, a two-run shot to left center to make it 7-2, giving him six RBIs on the day.
Back-to-back singles by Kenny Diekroeger and Jake Schlander gave Stanford a brief 2-0 lead in the second. Schlander drove in the team's third run in the seventh, making it 7-3 on a one-out double off of Barraclough. Both infielders had two hits.
The Cardinal remain at home this weekend for a three-game series with Oregon, with game times at 5:30 p.m on Friday, 1 p.m on Saturday and noon on Sunday. Righthanders Brian Busick (2-0, 2.41) and Jordan Pries (3-1, 3.35) are slated to start the first two games for Stanford. I
It will be the first time the Ducks will play at Sunken Diamond since March, 1977, Marquess' first year as head coach.
